Couples Counselling

Individual Psychotherapy

To seek therapy takes courage and you must be at a place where change feels important to you.  I believe it is a start of something empowering – a journey I hope I can help you with.

I’m a fully qualified Relationship Counsellor & Psychotherapist.  I am Relate trained with over 15 years’ experience and I continue to work for the Charity.  I’m an accredited member of the NCS Professional Standards Authority Register and bound by their Code of Ethics.   I’m also a member of the International Centre of Excellence Emotional Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).  I hold a full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.

My grounding in psychodynamic couples counselling and individual relationship counselling enables me to use a broad range of approaches to help you make sense of what is troubling you and to develop positive strategies to manage the issues you face, for example, depression/anxiety, difficulties with relationships, coping with separation/divorce and the effect on children, rebuilding a relationship after an affair, domestic abuse and violence, sexual minorities, mental health & couple relationships, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

I was introduced to Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) a few years ago and was impressed by its empirically based research proven to have long term benefits in couple relationships.  Couples get caught in a pattern of negative conversations and behaviours that may have become established over time and in time tricky to talk about or indeed resolve.  The relationship may become distressed or “stuck”.  Each of you may long for closeness and/or understanding; you try to communicate but...

•  your relationship is “distant” and you cannot reach each other?

•  you avoid conversations about difficult subjects to prevent arguments?

•  your arguments seem to go around in a cycle that goes nowhere?

•  conflict and arguments leave you feeling hurt, angry, resentful and very alone in the  relationship?

•  you feel unhappy because you are not understood or cared about?

•  you’ve been hurt in the past and unable to forgive – an affair maybe?

Is this familiar?

As an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, based in Aylesbury, Thame, Oxford and Wheatley, my aim is to support you both to emerge from your negative cycle to a place where you can re-discover mutual needs, gain understanding and build a physically and emotionally stronger relationship that will change your lives forever.

I believe both couples and individuals will find a warm and safe space in my therapy room to explore what is happening for you right now.  You may discover the resources you have within yourself to build a stronger, healthier life.    It will be a place where you are not judged but are valued, listened to and understood.  Your confidentiality will be respected.

On a personal level, one could say I’ve the “experience of life” that has shaped me and developed my resilience in a positive way.  I have enjoyed a long and enjoyable career in adult education, training and careers advice sector.  The decision to enhance my skill sets and develop personally led me to train as a Counsellor some years ago.

Finding a couples counsellor or emotionally focused therapist that you feel comfortable with is very important, so if you would prefer to discuss your situation informally or you want to find out whether we can work together, please do ring me.  You are under no obligation to book an appointment.
